1:48 Arado Ar 196 Shark Insignia and Numbers – WWII Bulgarian NAVY Paint Mask Set (48/827-101)

Suggested scale: 1/48

Suggested kit: Tamiya, Italeri, MPM, Historic Plastic Models Arado Ar-196 1/48 kits

Re-usable die-cut camo mask set

The set includes one sheet of pre-cut masks (shown in the picture). The masks are made from thin masking tape, which is easy to be peeled off and doesn’t leave any stains. The tape is tested on clear and painted model too. If carefully removed after painting, they can be used over and over again. It is flexible and easily applied over curved surfaces. Semi-transparent for easy and accurate placing.

Arado Ar-196

was a German observation seaplane developed in the late 1930s. It was used by the Kriegsmarine /German NAVY/, as well as Finland, Bulgaria, Romania and Norway. Some captured aircraft were fitted with Soviet radios and were used by the Soviet army for some period of time even after the end of World War II. Currently, three aircraft are officially known to exist around the globe in decent condition. Two of them are from Prince Eugen and are owned by the US museums. The third is in Bulgarian Air Museum. Besides those, there are couple that are known as locations but are not recovered nor restored for several reasons. That makes Arado 196 one of the most interesting WWII artefacts aviation-wise, with limited accessibility to the public.

The Mask set

is suitable for quarter scale Arado 196 seaplanes. It can be used with Tamiya, Italeri, MPM, Historic Plastic Models or any other 48th scale Arado 196 kit. The set covers some of the numbers that were used by the Bulgarian NAVY during the Second World War. During that period, Bulgaria had 12 aircraft Arado 196 stationed at Chayka seaplane airport near Varna. The seaplanes were used primarily for observation and were called “Shark” by their crews. The set features the insignia and some of the numbers, although not all of them are included due to lack of pictorial information. The emblem that represents a duck is not included in this set, since it can be replicated by custom or home-made decals only. However, the base for the emblem /if you decide to do it with home-made decals/ is included in this set and can be used for the white color base. Depending on the pictorial information, you can find the rudder painted in camouflage scheme, as well as in green and red, partially replicating Bulgarian flag colors.
